BIO
Jayce Clemons holds a BS in Music Education from Tennessee Tech University and is currently pursuing a MM in Percussion
Performance from the University of North Texas where he also holds a Teaching Fellowship position which includes teaching private lessons, percussion methods, and directing a classical ensemble. His percussion teachers include David Talbert, Eric Howard, Eric Willie, Mark Ford, Christopher Deane, Mike Drake, Paul rennick, Henry Okstel, Robert Schietroma, Ed Smith, She-e Wu, and Greg Danner for composition. He holds membership in PAS.
As a performer, Jayce Clemons has premiered works as a member of the Tennessee Tech Percussion Ensemble and Symphony Band, in which he held the principal chair for the 2009 season. He has performed with the Bryan Symphony Orchestra from 2006-2008. His DCI experience began in 2005 with Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps. Within these years of membership, he competed in the DCI solo marimba competition. In 2007, he competed in the PAS international marimba competition, and in 2008, he received honorable mention in the Joan Derryberry Concerto Competition for his performance of Eugene Levitas' Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra. So far in his career, he has performed with several great artist such as Brian Mason, Josh Jennings, Eric Willie, Andy Bliss, Drew Lang, and Dan Moore.
As an educator, Jayce has taught at several high schools around Middle and East Tennessee. All appointments have included either instructing the battery, front ensemble, or the combination of both. Other teaching positions include Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in 2008 and Music City Drum and Bugle Corps 2010. In the summer of 2011, he was the marching percussion instructor at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Summer Music Camp. Privately, he has taught lessons to students ranging from 5th to 12th grade. Several of these students have received superior ratings for their performances at a solo and ensemble competitions as well as have received scholarships to attend college and pursue music.
As a composer while at Tennessee Tech, Jayce’s piece Within Rain, a mallet sextet, was premiered in 2006 by the TTU Percussion Ensemble and Pleasant Dreams, a duet for marimba and vibe, was premiered in 2010 by Matt Tidwell and Katie Callahan. At UNT, his arrangement of Debussy’s Romantique Valse for marimba quartet was premiered by the Percussion Group. Outside of composing for solo and ensemble literature, he has also composed for film. As an arranger, Jayce has arranged the music for several high school marching bands in Tennessee and Oklahoma. He also contributed to the front ensemble book for Memphis Sound's 2008 show. His arranging opportunities span from small to BOA bands.
